Often thicket-forming; stems erect to ascending, unarmed, young growth fine-hairy and stalked-glandular, becoming smooth eventually; bark grey, flaking-off. Berries are similar to raspberry, 1 to 1.5cm in size.

Leaves are maple leaf shaped, double saw-toothed, green and smooth. 2-10 stalked flowers are white, bowl shaped.

Found in mesic open forests, clearings, thickets, streambanks and roadsides in lowland and subalpine zones.
